President’s Message, 2016-2017

Welcome to AAUW Longmont’s 2016-2017 Program Year!   This is an exciting year, with several traditional activities and one major change.

Members voted to retire the book fair, after 62 years of providing service to the community and raising monies to fund Branch activities and local scholarships and community action grants.  All of that hard work paid off – our scholarships and grants are now self-funding.  In early November, we will celebrate our accomplishments at a Book Fair Retirement Party.  In light of this decision , the Board decided to increase  dues to help finance necessary Branch expenses.  Members will be meeting throughout the year to discuss possible fund raisers.  The first meeting will be Thursday, October 13th;  this is the date when we would have set up for the book fair!

Based on members’ input, through small group discussions and a member survey, we are setting new goals and looking at new ways to serve our community.  There have already been two  planning meetings, with  almost one third of our members participating!

Every year, as we renew our membership in AAUW, we recommit to advancing equity for women and girls.  Paying dues, in itself, is a healthy contribution to this mission.  Our branch also offers opportunities for leadership, for community service, for friendship, and for fun!  Come join us as we move into this new year.

I am inspired by your commitment and excited by the possibilities of what we can can accomplish together.
