AAUW Longmont President’s Message
Welcome to AAUW Longmont’s 2017-2018 Program Year!
A year ago, we were wondering what direction our affiliate (AAUW National’s term for “branch”), would take. We have answered that question with vitality and creativity. We will continue to collaborate with Front Range Community College, while identifying other groups with which to partner. Two new interest groups were formed: “Coffee and Conversation” and “Current Issues & Advocacy”. Throughout the year, members met to brainstorm new activities. This summer, a dozen members met several times to begin drafting a strategic plan which will state specific Program, Membership, Communications, Public Policy, Governance and Finance goals for the next three years. This document will guide us as we move forward.
And moving forward we are!
Salad Supper begins our program year and Amy Blackwell, AAUW Colorado president, will be our speaker. In October, we celebrate our 70th birthday. Also in October, the Current Issues & Advocacy group will present a two-session workshop, “Conscious Conversations”. We continue to look forward to our traditional social events.
Each year, as we renew our membership in AAUW, we recommit to advancing equity for women and girls. Paying dues, in itself, is a healthy contribution to this mission. But, being a member of AAUW can be so much more. Our affiliate offers opportunities for leadership, for community service, for friendship, and for fun! Come join us as we move into this new year.
